Spring Newsletter 2018

Spring 2018 Newsletter from Duchal Nursery

Hopefully we’ve seen the end of the snow and bad weather and Spring will be upon us before we know it!

It has been wonderful welcoming so many new children and families to Duchal this academic year, the new children have settled in so well with the older teddies loving the responsibility of being there to guide them.

We have covered many topics since the nursery year started in August, (The Jungle, People who help us, Chinese New Year, Orchestras, World Book Day) the children have absorbed a wealth of information and have been learning so much, often without realizing it, as much of our learning is through play.

We started off learning our colours through our Jungle topic; there were tigers, toucans and snakes appearing all over the nursery! The Blue Teddies have been busy preparing for school learning their numbers and alphabet letters and practicing their fine motor skills with their pencils.

We have not only been doing our Active Starts, getting our hearts and lungs working in the mornings, but we have also managed to squeeze in tennis coaching, taekwondo, and yoga, in addition to our weekly PE lessons in the big sports hall!  We have also enjoyed our regular trips out into the park - we really have been active.

We were delighted that we have had a major refurbishment of the garden.  It now is fully covered with artificial grass, giving an all weather surface for the children to play in whatever the conditions, there will be no more mud and mess, we can go out to the park to find that!

Through the “People Who Help Us” topic we have had some fantastic sessions, there have been visits from the police, our local GP and community nurse and the lollypop helper.  The imagination area of Duchal has been changing from a hospital to a vet surgery to Santa’s workshop, a café, and all according to the children’s imagination!!

Our annual Christmas visit to the Tron Theatre was again a wonderful festive occasion, the children really enjoyed their trip on the bus into town, behaved impeccably, demonstrating great Duchal manners, and they adored the magic of the Christmas show.  All the children gave a great performance at our nativity finishing the year with a flourish!

Through the use of E-Learning Journals we are able to give parents regular feedback online about the activities that their child has been doing.  This is a fantastic way of giving parents an insight into life inside the nursery.

The Lunch and Afternoon Clubs have been really busy with the majority of the children attending and loving the varied activities that are on offer.  The children thoroughly enjoy the extra time they have to immerse themselves in everything that Duchal offers, and the parents are able to take advantage of the increased flexibility of childcare with the nursery open from 8.15am – 3.30pm every day.

We are looking forward to introducing our Summer Holiday Activity Club that will run for the 1st few days of the summer holiday, again giving parents a greater choice of childcare.

Duchal is so lucky to have such a highly qualified, experienced, enthusiastic and caring team of staff who all play such an important part of what makes Duchal such a special place for young children to grow in confidence during their early years. With so many topics and activities we really do have a busy time learning, there are our daily activities of arts and crafts, outdoor learning in our wonderful garden and surrounding park area, weekly trips to the large sports hall for PE, using our interactive touch screen computers, pre school work, French, cooking, entries to the Kilmacolm Show and much much more!!

We are currently registering children to start in August (and beyond), so if you know any new families to the area or anyone who hasn't yet confirmed their nursery place, please let them know about us!
