Free Funded Places

We are delighted to be able to offer free funded places for all children aged 3 – 5 years, via Inverclyde Council. Additionally we are also able to accept children from other areas (eg: Renfrewshire and Glasgow)

Funded hours from August 2024 are from 9.00am – 3.00pm, with wraparound care for Early Bird Drop offs from 8am - 9am and After School Club running from 3pm - 6pm* during term time (* 5pm on Fridays).

If you wish your child to attend our extended hours these hours will be invoiced at £6.50 per hour.

Wraparound Care

Funded places are currently* from 8.30am – 2.30pm, however we are open for early drops offs from 8.00am and until 6.00pm* for those families that require longer hours. (* from August 2024 onwards our funded hours will be 9am - 3pm and we will close at 5pm on Fridays).

After the core hours which follow curriculum teaching the afternoons are very child led with activities ranging from walks in the park collecting treasures, doing jigsaws, reading stories, painting, drawing and playing in the garden.  Sometimes we use cardboard boxes (if we have had deliveries) to build cars or we make chairs into trains in the quiet room. Friday is our ever popular movie 🍿 afternoon.

After school is very much led by the children who decide what they want to do…….within reason, so a lovely contrast to the morning sessions, and very relaxing after a long day!

Our wraparound care is currently invoiced at £6.50 per hour and MUST be booked in advance.

Bookings are made in half termly blocks and late changes will still be charged for as staff rotas have to be confirmed in advance of this. Invoices are sent in arrears every 4-5 weeks.

Please complete the form below detailing pick up times each day for the weeks of the half term.

Lunch and Snacks

All children are provided with a snack each morning and again in the afternoon for those staying after 4pm, these are served with milk or water.

Children who have funded places also receive lunch each day. We are able to cater for allergens and special dietary requirements, please contact the nursery direct with any specific needs.

The lunch menu can be viewed here

Our healthy snack menu varies each day offering the children an opportunity to try out new fruits and vegetables..

Uniform Order

Duchal Nursery School prides itself with it’s red uniform and we recommend that all pupils wear our red sweatshirt and white polo shirts together with their own joggers / leggings etc. Girls can choose to wear a red gingham dress, which are available from local supermarkets /shops.

We recommend that all the children have one of our red jackets which not only is warm and dry but also makes the children easily identifiable when out and about!

It is also recommended that pupils buy one of our red overalls for “messy time” to protect their uniform!

Parent Partnership

Duchal Nursery was established in 1967 by a group of parents and was the first nursery offering early years pre-school education in Kilmacolm, originally run by volunteers as a parents’ co-operative.  In keeping with this innovative start, Duchal has evolved over the years with a strong focus on aligning with a modern environment and offering a specialist pre-school education.

The Nursery prides itself with being a parent led establishment with the Parent Partnership working closely with the Directors and Staff. Each child has a representative member on our parent partnership.
