About Duchal Nursery School
Duchal was set up in 1967 by a group of local parents who wanted to establish a nursery within the village, creating a caring environment whilst providing the best care. From a time when nursery education did not feature on the political radar until now when it is on everyone’s agenda, Duchal was 30 years ahead of its time and for that we must thank the far sightedness of its founders.

Above see photo of the original nursery, in the old pavilion at Birkmyre Park where it was located until 2007. It then temporarily moved to the Kilmacolm Scout Hut while the new nursery was built. This opened in December 2008 with an extension to the garden in 2011 and upgrade in 2015 to include astroturf to allow for all year round use as well as the extendable awning to allow outside learning and play sheltered from the Scottish weather, rain or shine!
Duchal sets out to prepare children to become well-balanced entrants to formal education. It provides an education of the highest standard, using the most advanced principles and methods.
We want to go into partnership with parents so that together we can build on all that has been achieved before children come into the nursery school. Our aim is to work with parents to help children achieve their potential in all areas of their development.
We provide a warm, caring, secure and stimulating environment, totally geared to the 3-5 year old. We foster a family atmosphere, encouraging children to help one another and, in particular, the older children are encouraged to help younger ones.
Our ratio of one adult to six children allows us to get to know all the children in our care. It also enables us to give time and reassurance to any child who may need a little extra attention.
As the only independent specialist pre school establishment in the area our aims are all centred around providing the best early years, pre school preparation for our children, there are no distractions with other departments. Our staff not only have a wealth of early years experience, they are also parents themselves so have a greater understanding of what is required to care for the children in their care.
