Early Years Practitioner Person Specification

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Registration with or eligibility to register with SSSC as a practitioner

  • HNC in Childhood Practice SCQF Level 7 or equivalent

  • PVG Membership

Desirable:

  • Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 9

  • First aid qualification

  • Food and Hygiene Certificate

Knowledge/Skills/Understanding:

Essential:

  • Experience and working knowledge of Food and Hygiene qualification, Setting the Table and relevant Early Years Guidelines

  • Ongoing engagement with appropriate professional development training

  • Ability to work as an effective team member and to contribute to a positive working environment

  • Ability to form positive relationships with the nursery’s parents, carers and children

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of adherence to the SSSC Codes of Practice and other legislative requirements

Desirable: 

  • Willingness and ability to deputise for the Head Teacher and Deputy Head if neither are available

  • Ability to be a flexible and adaptable team player

Previous Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience of working with children aged 3-5 in a nursery setting

  • Experience of preparing snacks and lunches to children within a nursery setting

Desirable:

  • Interest in contributing to the local community
